The variety is a local Italian landrace common in the Basilicata region. It is officially included in blends for the production of olive oil with the protected designation of origin Vùlture DOP, where it can constitute up to 40% of the mixture.
In terms of maturity, Palmarola is a late-ripening variety. The variety is a representative of the genetic diversity of olive trees in Southern Italy, while detailed morphological characteristics of the plant are absent in open sources.
