The variety PALMERINA (synonym Palmarola or Parmarola) is autochthonous to Italy, specifically to the province of Potenza in the Basilicata region. Currently, its distribution is limited, and the total planting area is gradually decreasing.

The trees have medium vigor. The variety is characterized as dual-purpose, with fruits used both for table purposes and for oil production, including as part of DOP Vulture products. The average oil content in the fruits is approximately 18.13%, and the flesh-to-pit ratio is estimated as medium.

The variety is characterized by alternate bearing, where productive years alternate with unproductive ones. The name PALMERINA may also be used in Spain as a common name for the plant Thymelaea hirsuta, which belongs to the Thymelaeaceae family and is not an olive tree.
