The Ogliarola del Vulture variety, also known as Ripolese, Rapollese, Ogliarola di Melfi, or Nostrale, is a traditional cultivar developed through folk selection. It is adapted to the climatic conditions and volcanic soils of the Basilicata region in Italy.
This variety is an oil-bearing type and is used primarily for the production of olive oil, in particular as a component of products with the Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) Olio lucano. The oil of this variety has a harmonious profile with medium intensity of fruity notes, bitterness, and pungency, in which hints of fresh grass, artichoke, tomato, almond, or apple may appear.
