The Ritonnella variety is a landrace that has been propagated vegetatively for centuries and is widely distributed in Campania. In literature, it is mentioned under a number of regional name variations, such as Ritonnella di Teano, Ritonnella di Altavilla Salentina, Ritonnella di Contursi, and Ritonnella di San Angelo Fasanella.
The plant is characterized by a late entry into the active fruiting phase and demonstrates high and stable flowering indices. The variety is included in studies of genetic diversity and biochemical analysis of olive oils in the Campania region, including the study of fatty acid and polyphenol profiles.
