The variety name is associated with the pinkish hue of the fruits that appears during the ripening process.
The variety is autochthonous to the central regions of Italy. It is characterized by stable yields and good rooting ability of cuttings. The variety is self-incompatible and requires pollinators, such as Leccino or Moraiolo.
The variety has high cold tolerance but is sensitive to olive knot, peacock spot, and olive fruit fly infestation. High susceptibility to the fungus Verticillium dahliae has been noted.
