The variety, also known by the names Morrut or Morruda, originates from the province of Tarragona. The fruits are distinguished by the presence of a characteristic protrusion at the apex, resembling a snout. There are color varieties, classified as black and red Morrut.
The plant enters the fruiting period slowly and demonstrates biennial bearing. The variety is sensitive to cold and has low drought tolerance. Fruit ripening in productive years occurs very late.
The main purpose of the variety is the production of olive oil, which is used both as a single-varietal and in blends. The resulting product possesses pronounced bitter and pungent taste notes.
