Under the general name Romanella are a number of local olive varieties, genetically differing depending on the region of growth, such as Basilicata, Calabria, or Campania. These olive forms are not the result of targeted breeding, but represent ancient agricultural populations.

The fruits are used to obtain olive oil, which is characterized by medium fruitiness, intense bitterness, and a spicy aftertaste, as well as a high polyphenol content. In traditional groves, the trees can act as pollinators for other olive varieties.
