The Urgavona variety was created to combat the dangerous soil-borne fungal disease Verticillium dahliae. Its key characteristic is high resistance to Verticillium wilt, which allows it to be used in soils where other varieties are susceptible to this pathogen.
In agronomic studies, this variety is considered specialized material for the olive industry. Along with disease resistance testing, the variety undergoes trials to evaluate physiological responses to drought.
