The Valanolia variety, also known as Kolovi or Mytilinia, is the main cultivar on the island of Lesbos. The tree is considered undemanding, well-adapted to growing on schist and limestone soils, and possesses resistance to cold and drought.
The fruit of the variety has an average weight of about 3.3 g and a shape resembling an acorn. The oil content of the fruit is 25–30%. The variety belongs to late maturity groups and is characterized by average, alternate bearing.
The olive oil obtained from these fruits is distinguished by a high content of antioxidants, a balanced bitterness, pungency, and a pronounced fruity aroma.
