VADDARICA is a local variety distributed on the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily between Palermo and Messina. The tree is characterized by high growth vigor, strong branches, and a dense canopy with an upward branching habit. The leaves are elliptical in shape, 5–7 cm in length and 1–1.5 cm in width, with a characteristic downward curvature.
The fruits of the variety ripen early. The variety is intended for oil production, with an oil yield of slightly less than 20%, although the fruits can also be used for table purposes. The variety shows relative resistance to climatic threats and olive fruit fly, and is prone to alternate bearing. Currently, the variety is considered rare and in need of conservation.
