The rootstock was selected from a wild tree combining traits of the Mexican and Guatemalan races. It is characterized by a powerful root system with active growth of feeder roots. Morphologically, the rootstock is distinguished by a reddish tint of young shoots and the presence of an anise scent in the leaves.

When used as a base for the Hass variety, the rootstock demonstrates high adaptability to soil conditions, including alkaline soils in regions with limited precipitation. The use of KB1 allows for the production of larger fruit and the effective development of the grafted plant's canopy volume.
