The variety is used in agronomic research and practice as a high-yielding forage and energy crop. It is used for cultivation on waterlogged and swampy lands, serving as a source of biomass for energy and biogas production, as well as for the purification of soil and water from heavy metals such as zinc and cadmium.
The variety is characterized by high dry matter yield, which reaches 8.6–15.6 t/ha per year in field experiments on peatlands. The plant possesses high adaptability to flooding, successfully growing on soils unsuitable for many other agricultural crops. Lipaula is a stable genotype that should be distinguished from decorative variegated forms of the species.
