The Gatve variety belongs to perennial rhizomatous grasses, which are highly valued for their ability to form dense sod and exhibit resistance to trampling. The plant possesses characteristics typical of its species, including high winter hardiness and longevity.

The variety is intended for forage purposes and the creation of lawns. In Latvia, it is used as part of forage grass genetic resource collections and is also included in the Common Catalogue of Varieties of Agricultural Plant Species of the European Union.
