The Blanc du Poitou variety is a hybrid of black poplar (Populus nigra) and American black poplar (Populus deltoides). It is a hardy male clone, propagated vegetatively, which was introduced in France around 1850.

The plant is used in plantation forestry with a growth cycle until harvesting of about 25 years. The wood is characterized by good peeling properties, which allows it to be used for the production of veneer and plywood. The variety is also suitable for cultivation in energy plantations.

During growth, the variety can be susceptible to fungal diseases of shoots and branches, such as Dothichiza canker. In scientific literature, the variety is identified as a specific clone within the group of Populus × canadensis hybrids (synonym Populus × euramericana).
