The AF18 clone is a breeding form of Populus × canadensis, which is a hybrid of black poplar and eastern cottonwood. The main purpose of this variety is use in industrial forest plantations for the production of wood raw materials, including pulp, particle board, OSB, MDF, and pellets.

In nurseries, seedlings of this clone reach a height of about 1.75 m with a trunk diameter of 1.5–2.5 cm. The variety is characterized by rapid growth, and during breeding programs, its suitability for various climatic conditions is tested, including drought tolerance and adaptation to marginal soils.
