Clones Weser 4 and Weser 6 belong to the group of balsamic hybrids of the section Tacamahaca and are the result of crossing P. trichocarpa and P. koreana. They were bred within the framework of breeding programs in Hann. Münden for the purposes of energy forestry.

The primary purpose of these clones is cultivation in short-rotation plantations for biomass production. The productivity of the varieties varies depending on conditions, with Weser 6 demonstrating high height increment rates in a number of experiments. Breeding work also included the assessment of the plants' resistance to poplar rust.

In modern commercial forestry, these clones are practically not used and are not included in current official variety registers, yielding to more productive modern hybrids.
