The cherry "Альфа" is a tree 3.5–4 meters high with a dense, narrow-obovate crown. The variety has a mid-late ripening period; fruits weighing about 4.5 g have a dark red color and juice of the same color. The crop is characterized by high winter hardiness and resistance to Coccomyces hiemalis.
The sweet cherry "Alfa" of Swiss breeding was obtained in the 1950s from crossing the varieties "Basler Adler" and "Erstfrühe". In modern industrial plantings, this variety is encountered extremely rarely.
