The variety originates from the region of the village of Medňany in Slovakia, where it has been known for over 250 years. The tree is distinguished by vigorous growth and forms a powerful crown. The variety is cross-pollinating and requires the presence of pollinators.

The fruits are medium to large in size, round or blunt-heart-shaped. The skin is glossy, dark red, and almost black when fully ripe. The flesh is juicy, sweet, with a spicy wine flavor, and the texture ranges from semi-firm to firm.

The variety possesses good winter hardiness of the wood and resistance of the fruits to cracking during rainy weather, which reduces the risk of Monilinia infection. The ripening period occurs in July. The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption, canning, and drying.
