The rootstock was selected by specialists at the East Malling Research Station. It is intended for vegetative propagation and for ensuring uniformity of the rootstock part, serving as a vigorous control sample in modern orchards.

The plant possesses good adaptation to various soil types, including moist and heavy soils, and high resistance to lodging. However, the rootstock is characterized by a not very high propagation rate, which limits its use compared to more modern dwarfing analogues.
