The variety was obtained in the UK in 1970 by open pollination of the variety Merton Glory. The tree has moderate vigor.

The fruits are large, black in color, have a sweet taste, pleasant texture and a slight sour aftertaste. The crop ripens in late June — early July.

The variety belongs to flowering group B. The literature notes susceptibility to bacterial canker caused by Pseudomonas syringae.
