Variety description

10 August 2026

The Merton Prenier variety, also known as "Merton 418", is a mid-early sweet cherry variety with heart-shaped fruits. At full maturity, the fruit skin acquires a dark purple-red hue, and the soft flesh has a sweet taste and moderate aroma. The variety is characterized by good fruit resistance to cracking and the presence of a small triangular stone.

The tree of this variety has moderate vigor and forms a rounded-bushy crown, entering fruit-bearing 2–3 years after planting. The variety is self-incompatible and requires pollinators for crop formation. Agronomic publications note the potential sensitivity of the tree to certain fungal diseases, such as cherry leaf spot. The variety is intended for fresh consumption.
