The variety is traditional for regions of Croatia and adapted to specific Mediterranean conditions. Genetic studies using SSR markers confirmed the identity of Tugarka with the varieties Creska, Lovranska, and Kutjevačka, which are considered synonyms.

The fruits have a heart shape, a long pedicel, and an average weight of more than 7.5 g. The soluble solids content is about 13.1%. The variety belongs to late or very late ripening groups.

The variety is self-incompatible and demonstrates a low fruit set percentage, often amounting to less than 10%. This is due to a short effective pollination period, rapid ovule degeneration during high temperatures in the flowering period, and reduced pollen viability.
