The Usigliano variety is an autochthonous ecotype that is not the result of modern breeding hybridization. It historically developed in the area of the town of Lari and is included in the regional germplasm bank. The fruits of this variety possess a sweet taste with a sugar content of at least 14 degrees Brix.
The plant is traditionally grown both in specialized plantations and in mixed plantings. The fruits are used primarily for fresh consumption and have the status of cultural heritage of the region, being presented annually at the local cherry festival in Lari.
