The crop is not a product of modern breeding and historically spread in the region after 1770. Initially, local farmers propagated the trees using root suckers. Within the framework of genetic resource conservation projects, the plants were propagated by grafting onto vigorous rootstocks.

Fruits of this variety differ from sweet cherries in their smaller size and more acidic, rich flavor. They were traditionally used in the food industry for preparing jams, wines, and liqueurs, including for the production of Cherry Heering liqueur.
