The rootstock was bred by specialists of the French National Institute for Agricultural Research through selection from seedlings of commercial batches of Prunus avium. Its main purpose is to provide growth characteristics for sweet cherry and cherry varieties grafted onto it.
Trees grafted onto this rootstock possess high vigor, exceeding the F12-1 standard. The rootstock is characterized by a high degree of plant uniformity and tolerance to bacterial root cancer under nursery conditions. Trees form a small amount of root suckers, and the onset of fruiting occurs relatively slowly.
