Folha no Pé is a traditional folk-type sour cherry cultivated in the Óbidos and Alcobaça regions. The variety name translates as "leaf on the stalk" and is due to a characteristic morphological feature — the presence of a small stipule directly on the fruit stalk.
The plant is characterized by early flowering and fruiting, making it susceptible to damage from late spring frosts. Trees are often grown as small plantings on the edges of plots.
The fruits are small and sour, with red skin and pink flesh. They are characterized by high antioxidant activity and a significant concentration of phenolic compounds, which makes them the primary raw material for the industrial production of traditional Ginja de Óbidos liqueur.
