The variety is a local type of Prunus cerasus belonging to the sour cherry group. It originates from the Ciociaria region and is included in registries of varieties preserving biodiversity, specifically for the territory of the town of Alatri.
The fruits are small, 1–1.5 cm in diameter, with a round shape and a bright red color. The taste of the fruits is sweet with a pronounced sour aftertaste. The produce is traditionally used for making jams, preserves, and liqueur wines.
