Pixy is a dwarfing rootstock derived from St. Julien d'Orleans seedlings. Trees grafted onto it reach 1/2–2/3 the size of trees on St. Julien A rootstock, measuring about 2.7–4 meters at maturity depending on growing conditions and training.
The rootstock is characterized by high precocity and fruiting efficiency relative to crown volume. In cases of heavy yields, fruits may be smaller than usual, but the rootstock contributes to an increase in their sugar content. Trees demonstrate good resistance to lodging and bacterial canker, but may require irrigation during drought.
The rootstock propagates easily from hardwood cuttings. It is used in intensive orchards and amateur gardening for creating compact and highly productive plantings of plum, cherry plum, and other stone fruit crops.
