The variety BN 4 Kr is a clonal rootstock for plum belonging to the cherry plum species. The rootstock tree has moderate vigor, smooth shoots without thorns, red-purple on top and olive-green on the bottom. The root system is taproot, well-developed, ensuring high resistance to lodging.
The main feature of the variety is high resistance to plum pox virus, preventing its natural infection and transmission via aphids. The rootstock ensures good compatibility with main plum varieties and contributes to their high productivity due to a moderate reduction in tree vigor.
Flowering occurs later than other cherry plum species. Propagation is possible generatively via seeds, which retain the resistance trait in 70% of the progeny, as well as vegetatively by cuttings or via in vitro methods. The fruits are small, weighing about 6.5 g, and ripen in August.
