COSCIA DI MONACA is an ancient plum population belonging to the species Prunus domestica (often classified as the subspecies insititia). Trees of this variety are characterized as medium or low-growing with a compact crown, reaching heights of 3 to 7 meters. Fructification may be biennial.

The fruits are small to medium in size, weighing 20–30 g, possessing a characteristic oblong shape and thin skin of a golden-yellow color. The flesh is distinguished by a honey-like flavor, juiciness, and aroma; the stone separates easily. The harvest ripens between late July and August.

The variety possesses high resistance to adverse conditions and most diseases, although it can be susceptible to Clasterosporium carpophilum. The fruits are used for fresh consumption, culinary processing, and drying, during which they retain high aromatic quality.
