The variety is autochthonous to the Conca d'Oro region in the vicinity of Palermo. The main form ripens from the end of June to mid-August, whereas the tardivo variety ripens 20–30 days later and may have larger fruits with a characteristic red spot on the skin.
The fruits are small or medium-sized, elliptical in shape, and light yellow in color with a white waxy bloom. The flesh is juicy, ranging from medium-firm to soft. Traditionally, the variety is used fresh, as well as dried after being wrapped in paper for long-term storage.
