The tree reaches a height of 3 to 5 meters and is characterized by good winter hardiness. The variety belongs to the soft-shelled almond group; the fruits are characterized by the sweet taste of the kernels and their large size.

Flowering occurs with large, pure white flowers. The variety is historically significant for the Palatinate region. In literature, Dürkheimer Riesenmandel is often mentioned as a synonym for Dürkheimer Krachmandel, although it should be distinguished from the ornamental bitter variety Dürkheimer Prachtmandel.
