The Pfälzer variety is a small tree or large shrub 2 to 6 meters in height. The plant is noted for its decorative flowering, with pink flowers blooming before the leaves appear.
The fruits are large, with a sweet kernel without bitterness; the harvest period is from October to December. The variety is self-pollinating and does not require external pollinators for fruit set.
In Northern European conditions, cultivation in protected ground or in well-warmed, wind-protected areas is recommended, as obtaining a harvest in the open field is difficult.
