The variety has an unknown breeding origin and comes from the Grumo Appula area of the Bari province. It appears in literature under the synonyms Pignatello and Pignatelli; the variety Pignatidde tardiva is also mentioned.

The tree has medium vigor and a slightly spreading canopy. The fruits have an oblong shape and a brown color. The shell is very hard, of medium thickness, moderately porous, with a pronounced ventral suture.

The kernel is elliptical in shape, small, with nearly smooth brown skin and a sweet taste; double kernels are absent. The variety belongs to the late category, with the ripening period occurring in the first ten days of September.
