The plant belongs to the species Prunus persica and is used exclusively as a rootstock. It is easily identified in nurseries by its characteristic red leaves.

This rootstock exhibits resistance to root-knot nematodes, but is susceptible to bacterial canker and other soil-borne pathogens. The plant poorly tolerates calcareous soils, waterlogging and lacks winter hardiness.
