The Otesani 8 rootstock was bred to improve the characteristics of commercial plum orchards. It shows good compatibility with most common varieties, imparting a growth vigor comparable to Pixy and Saint Julien A rootstocks.

A distinctive feature of the rootstock is its adaptability to soils with a clay content of more than 20%. Unlike many other clonal rootstocks, Otesani 8 has a low rooting ability from hardwood cuttings, therefore the seed method is often used for its mass propagation.
