The plant is a vigorous tree that provides good compatibility with most cultivated sweet cherry varieties. Trees grafted onto this rootstock are distinguished by longevity and regular fruiting, but are characterized by a late onset of fruit-bearing and large canopy sizes, which complicates maintenance.
This form prefers fertile deep soils. The root system of the rootstock exhibits resistance to certain types of rot, including Phytophthora spp. and Armillaria mellea, but is sensitive to a number of bacterial pathogens. Vrapčara is not a bred variety, but rather a wild-growing form of sweet cherry.
