The VSL 1 rootstock promotes early entry of grafted trees into the fruiting phase, allowing for marketable yields as early as the third year. It possesses a high capacity for vegetative propagation, in particular, it is easily propagated by hardwood cuttings, and is characterized by resistance to diseases.

This rootstock is intended for growing plum, peach, and sweet cherry seedlings. The use of VSL 1 allows for the creation of compact orchards with trees of reduced height, which facilitates plant care and harvesting processes.
