The variety is an accidental seedling discovered in France in 1870–1871. The tree has a medium to vigorous growth habit with a sparse pyramidal or broad-oval crown. The variety possesses good compatibility with quince rootstock and medium winter hardiness.

The harvest period falls between late September and mid-October; consumption is possible from October through December. The fruits are large, weighing 200–400 g, yellow in color with gray dots and a reddish-orange blush. The flesh is white or creamy-white, tender, melting, juicy, sweet, with a spicy aroma.
