The Fragrante variety is a product of crossing Bergamotte Esperen and Passe Crassane varieties using the pollen of the latter. This variety belongs to the very late maturity group.

As part of the study of genetic resources, the variety is considered when assessing resistance to adverse factors. The NCGR-Corvallis database records negative biological test results for this variety for the presence of a number of viral diseases.
