The pear variety named Formosa Almirante is a local Portuguese variety that formed as a result of many years of empirical selection conducted by farmers.
During scientific studies of the fruit's chemical composition, this variety was characterized as the least sweet among the local varieties studied. Precise data on the morphological characteristics of the tree, disease resistance, and maturity group are absent.
