Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety is an ancient one, with the first records of it dating back to 1670 in France. The variety received its name due to the appearance of the fruits: the yellowish-green skin features numerous red specks, resembling the spots on trout scales.

The fruits are of medium size, elongated or short-pyriform in shape, with white, juicy flesh with a slight acidity. The tree is vigorous and has good compatibility with quince rootstock, but shows susceptibility to scab.

The variety is a winter one; the fruits ripen by the end of October. It is used primarily in fresh form and is popular among amateur gardeners due to the decorative appearance of the fruits.
