The variety is the result of work by the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture and was derived from 'Max Red Bartlett' seedlings. Due to relatively low yields at a young age, it is more often considered a variety for amateur gardening rather than intensive commercial production.
Fruits of the Gaisra variety are larger than average in size with a red color, and are distinguished by their juiciness and taste qualities. The tree possesses good winter hardiness, and the fruits show resistance to infestation by scab and fruit rot.
