Variety description

The variety is local to the Bergisches Land region in Germany. It was practically lost by the end of the 2000s due to the death of old trees and infection of the mother plantation with fire blight, but was preserved thanks to the discovery of young trees in Düsseldorf.

The fruits ripen in August or September and are consumed fresh as a spicy dessert pear. The variety is included in fruit diversity conservation networks and is documented in the German Fruit Gene Bank.
