Giugnolina is an ancient local Italian variety. In literature, it is often considered a group of varieties with similar ripening periods, which is why it is frequently identified with other summer pears, such as San Giovanni, Pero Moscatello, or Verzelinna.

The fruits of the variety are small in size and are distinguished by a pronounced aroma and sweet taste. They are intended exclusively for fresh consumption and are not suitable for long-term storage. The variety is valuable for the conservation of agrobiodiversity and is more common in amateur and collection plantings.

The plant possesses high resistance to major pear diseases. Studies also confirm the presence of antixenotic resistance to the pear psylla Cacopsylla pyri.
