Variety description

10 August 2026

Trees of the variety are distinguished by very vigorous, upright growth and longevity; historically, they were used in meadow orchards. The variety is undemanding regarding soil and climatic conditions, resistant to scab, as well as to frost damage to wood and blossoms. After the tree formation period, the variety requires minimal pruning.

The small or medium-sized fruits have a squat pear-shaped or obtuse-conical shape. The ripening period occurs from late August to early September. Due to a short shelf life and the tendency of the flesh to quickly become mealy, the fruits are not intended for long-term commercial storage.

The variety belongs to utility (culinary) pears. The taste is spicy-sweet; the main purpose of the fruits is for drying, baking, cooking, and preparing pear syrup (Birnenkraut). In fresh form, the fruits can be consumed only in years with an especially good harvest.
