The variety was bred in the 19th century in Great Britain as a chance seedling. The tree has medium winter hardiness, is sensitive to drought, and requires regular watering; it possesses relative resistance to scab. Plant height is determined by the rootstock used.

Fruits with a weight of 140 to 220 g have an elongated pear shape and greenish-yellow skin, often with characteristic russeting. The pinkish-cream flesh is distinguished by high juiciness, buttery texture, and a sweet taste. The fruits hold well on the tree and are not prone to dropping.

The variety is intended for fresh consumption and long-term storage, which in cold storage facilities lasts from 3 to 5 months. It is also used as a pollinator for other pear varieties.
