The Kontoula Lechaiou variety is a folk selection that developed under Greek conditions. Within the "Kontoula" group of summer varieties, the fruits are distinguished by a pronounced taste and aroma, with an average weight of about 80 grams.
Fruits of this variety are characterized by a short shelf life, a tendency to drop when ripe, and high susceptibility to certain diseases typical of classical forms of the group. In modern horticulture, the variety is maintained through the activities of organizations for the certification of virus-free planting material.
