The name Moscaton unites a number of local pear forms that are not a breeding variety in the strict sense. These plants belong to the Moscatelle group, which has ancient origins and is cultivated primarily in the Veneto and Emilia-Romagna regions.

Most representatives of the group are summer varieties with an early maturity period from late June to mid-July. The fruits are small or medium in size, distinguished by a sweet taste with a muscat aroma, but have low keeping quality.

These forms are classified as autochthonous varieties that are at risk of extinction and are often included in genetic resource conservation programs. Information on specific morphological traits or disease resistance for individual forms is absent in the literature.
