The Nägelis Birne tree (synonyms: Nägelsche Birne, Olivenbirne, Gsälzbirne, Hutzelbirne) is noted for its longevity and is often used in landscape design. The fruits reach harvest maturity in September. They have an elongated shape, a yellowish color with a reddish blush on the sun-exposed side, and white, juicy flesh.
The taste profile is characterized by a pronounced aroma and a high content of tannins. Due to its characteristics, the variety is widely used as a raw material for spirits.
